diego york

a (san) diego girl living in and loving (new) york.

One of my best childhood friends got engaged this past weekend. She’s an extremely talented graphic designer and her fiancé, an architect.  Their joint creativity is off the charts, so I can’t wait to see how they blend together her beachy California upbringing, his Texan charm, and both their modern sensibilities/ formal design training into an undoubtedly cool wedding fête.

I’m not usually a Versace lover, but you can bet that when the Versace for H&M line launches on November 17th, I’ll be there scooping up these 2 fun items.

It’s true that brunettes look amazing in green…

…but when my friend Annie married early this month (yes, the same bride who gifted us bridesmaids the adorable Plum Pretty Sugar robes that I blogged about here), I was shocked when she put on green earrings! I guess I was expecting the traditional diamonds, pearls, or some variation of blue (for the bride’s “something blue”), but her green Art Deco earrings surpassed any stereotypical bridal jewelry expectations I had.  In fact, alongside her bow-tie clad groom, the earrings completed a look that was so beautifully old school and glam!

Lulu Frost for J.Crew: Resin and crystal appliqué earrings, $65.

Ever since spotting the C.Wonder bus outside my office back in July and their fun ads in the Sunday Styles section, I’ve been obsessed. The brand’s slow unveiling of products and fun marketing has New Yorkers wanting more (at least this New Yorker anyway).

Turns out C.Wonder is the brainchild of Chris Burch (Tory’s ex). Their affordable luxury goods aim to compete with Anthropology (only a little more modern and fashionable). The 5,100-square-foot Spring Street Store in Soho opens this Saturday and I’ll definitely be in attendance, snatching up some of the below items.

I spent this last weekend relaxing up in Connecticut. Not only did I get to do a little fall leaf-peeping and spend time with family, but I also got to debut my new fall sneaks. Forever 21 Contrast Low-top Sneakers. Mine are army green to match my army green jacket, but for just $12.50 a pair, I think I need them in every color.

Tonight I’m making the most of this big city I live in… off to dinner & Jazz at Lincoln Center! In fact, we’re season ticket holders this year. First on the docket is Wynton Marsalis. Very excited!

Can’t get Lana del Rey’s Video Games out of my head. Out on iTunes in 3 more days…  visit her website to pre-order (http://lanadelrey.com/).

If you loved Alexander McQueen at the Met…

…then perhaps you’ll be as excited as I am about yesterday’s Met announcement. Up next for their Spring 2012 exhibition, opening May 10, will be “Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion.” On display will be 80 designs by the late Schiaparelli (from the late 1920s to the early 1950s) and Ms. Prada (from the late 1980s - present).

Darling framed Kay Unger prints for sale on One Kings Lane today.  Thinking of water coloring little replicas and framing them for my bathroom…

These amazing camera straps scream Courtney Snyder, one of my dearest college friends who is equally as obsessed with Chanel as she is photography.  SFK, founded by former Teen Vogue Accessories Editor, Sarah Frances Kuhn, makes caring a huge camera around your neck a little less touristy & little more chic!

As my mom knows, I’m very picky about my bathrobes. My pickiness isn’t unfounded though! When you’re zipping around the apt at the speed of light to get ready in the morning, a bulky robe can really get in the way. That’s why floor-length is out of the question. Sleeves shouldn’t be too long. Terry cloth is too itchy & fluffy is too hot in a steamy bathroom. Plus, cute factor weighs in heavily.

Which brings me to this past weekend… not only did one of my closest friends get married (weee!), but she gave us (bridesmaids) the most perfect & adorable bathrobes from Plum Pretty Sugar (http://plumprettysugar.com/). I’d spotted them on bridal parties before and am so happy to have one of my very own.

Here we are in our bathrobes…

My fall wardrobe dreams have come true… I finally found a cape! On sale for $48.99 at Loft, in my size, and the last one in the store. If that’s not fate, I don’t know what is.

Here I am (bottom left, just after purchasing) sporting my new cape in Chinatown. Sort of similar to the piping on Blair’s DKNY coat (bottom right), no?

Target’s collaborations just keep getting better! Next up: one of my favorites, Jason Wu. He says his Target collection “embodies (his) signature aesthetic of feminine sophistication, with a mischievous nod to the 1960s.”

I’m hoping his Target pieces are reminiscent of his Spring 2012 Collection.

In stores & online February 5 through March 6, 2012. Can’t wait & fingers crossed that the Target website doesn’t crash this time!

This rainy NYC forecast has me reminiscing about my cousin’s late-August wedding (the weekend of Hurricane Irene). Surprisingly, it was pulled off (mid-hurricane) without a hitch. But not surprisingly, knowing my cousin’s crafty wife Rebecca, the wedding was full of unbelievably personal & thoughtful details.

To preface: my cousin Chris & his wife Rebecca are writers, so they thought it only appropriate to plan a book themed wedding. I’m usually not one for themes, as they can turn cliché pretty quickly, but they incorporated theirs subtly & tastefully.

Below Photos (entering the tented reception area): ln lieu of a traditional welcome table lined with name cards & table numbers, a bookshelf filled with books that had been hand-selected by the bride & groom with each guest in mind . Attached to the spine was that person’s name & their table number. I later learned that they’d spent their entire engagement brainstorming each guest’s tastes/interests and then combing used bookstores/ Amazon for unique & fitting books. Ridiculously thoughtful!

And then to accompany your new book, a personalized bookmark tucked into your napkin at your place setting. I must say, I was pretty flatted they asked me to be the bookmark calligrapher.
